Saint Aubin 2016

White Burgundy, Saint Aubin is the village and the 2016 vintage in the glass. A first by this producer for me but what a pleasant surprise. Sylvain Langoureau has produced an elegant and refreshing wine with a bouquet so typical of a top white Burgundy. Citrus, yeast and butter notes with a medium body beautiful balanced taste that makes you want yet another sip. A very good Saint Aubin version that does not cost and arm and a leg. Approx half the price of certain other producers. Saint Aubin 2016 Sylvain Langoureau Ca 240 NOK or 18€

Saint Aubin 1er cru by Lamy

Hubert Lamy and Saint Aubin is definitely one of my favourite combinations when it comes to white wines. This delightful combination gives white Burgundies to die for and if you ever coms across you just have to buy as they are becoming increasingly more difficult to get hold of. This premier cru with the funny name "Les Murgers des Dents de Chien" has it all. Beautiful aromas of lime, butter, minerals and green apples. Lovely fruity and balanced taste with perfect acidity and aftertaste. Use big glasses and drink it not too cold, more around 10-12c. Saint Aubin 1er cru 2013 Les Murgers des Dents de Chien Hubert Lamy Ca 35€

Saint Aubin 2014 Pierre Yves Colin Morey

The 2014 vintage is out and let it be said that the hail storms might have impacted the quantity but certainly not the quality of the wines in Burgundy. Perfect pale yellow green colour with a delicious smell of lime, spices, flowers and minerals. Super velvet fruit and ever so delightful to drink. Perfect harmony! Got this bottle in Paris in one of the many over expensive but oh so wonderful food shops. The price for this bottle was however reasonable... Saint-Aubin 2014 Le Banc Pierre Yves Colin Morey Ca 30€

Saint Aubin 2011 En Remilly

There is nothing better than a decent bottle of Saint Aubin when the weather is warm and sunny. It gets even better when it's a premier cru called En Remilly which in my opinion is one of the best in Saint Aubin. Lovely smell of lime, butter and white flowers. Delicious dense, fruity and firm-structured taste with a great balance and length. It's a perfect white wine and the colour is just like reflections of the sun... It goes well with white fish (both lean and fat types) and also with asian food and poultry. Situated between the two Montrachet, Saint Aubin provides good value for money. Saint Aubin 2011 En Remilly Ch. Puligny Montrachet Ca 40€

Saint Aubin 2010 En Remilly by Girardin

Saint Aubin is one my favourite white villages in Burgundy or maybe the whole world. It is slightly less expensive than their neighbours in Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault but they always deliver high quality white wines. Especially this premier cru from the plot "En Remilly" is always a winner independent of which producer has made the wine. In my experience white premier cru Burgundies should have at least 5 years in the bottle before being consumed. This enables the wine to develop and show it's true character. When you drink a wine like this then you look for lime, butter, herbs and nuts on the nose with a big solid taste with some minerality. It will set you back 30-40€, but it's worth it.

Saint Aubin 1er cru En Remilly 2007

One of the top plots in Saint-Aubin and one of the best producers, then it just has to be right! Pale yellow colour with hint of green. Super delicious smell of ripe tropical fruit, lime, spicy oak and butter. Great fruity complex taste which is drinking perfectly now. Unfortuntaley this was the last bottle.... A very good white Burgundy indeed. Saint-Aubin 1er cru En Remilly 2007 Hobert Lamy Ca 35€

Saint Aubin "La Pucelle" 2013 by Colin Morey

This is not the most famous of the Saint Aubin plots, but when Colin-Morey is the architect behind then who cares. A truly brilliant wine that I had for lunch when in Beaune during Easter. Lots of lime, butter, all spice and a wonderful balanced taste and finish. It is easy to perceive the quality of his wine-making when you taste his wines. The first thing you notice is the sheer deliciousness: we are talking about intense, yet elegant and exquisitely balanced Chardonnay.  In addition they have something that it seems only great whites from the Cote de Beaune are capable of delivering:  an intensity of minerality that weaves in and out of white fleshy fruit, flowing into a long finish where everything comes together into a clear, balanced and pure mineral-driven focus. Lovely stuff! Saint-Aubin La Pucelle 2013 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

St.Aubin 1 er cru Les Combes 2006

Went to London the other day and my favourite wine bar in Marylebone road called 28-50. There they have a normal wine list and a "special" one. I found this St.Aubin by Morey-Blanc in the special list and it was nicely priced as well.  The smell was just gourgeous with delicate lime, butter, minerals and spices. The taste was equally good with an enormous depth, balance and acidity. Stunning stuff and d rinking ever so well right now. Saint-Aubin 1er cru Les Combes 2006 Morey-Blanc

Saint Aubin 2011 Colin-Morey

"Les Creots" is perhaps a less famous premier cru in Saint Aubin, but once Colin-Morey is the master of the wine you are ensured top quality in the glass. Pale straw yellow colour. Lovely fresh smell of butter, lime, almond , flowers and some spicyness. Again the taste is just amazing with great complexity and  balance. Lots of fresh fruit and acidity with hints of orangeskin. A truly lovely wine. Saint-Aubin Les Creots 2011 Pierre Yves Colin-Morey High price

Saint Aubin "En Remilly" comparison

Comparing wines can be an interesting exercise. The other day there was Saint Aubin on the schedule; both bottles from the same premier cru plot in Saint Aubin called "En Remilly", both from the same year, both also obviously based upon 100% Chardonnay. The only difference was the two producers: Hubert Lamy and Vincent Girardin, both well known producers of white Burgundy. So based upon the terroir theory there shouldn't be much of a difference.... First the colour of the two wines were very different: Lamy's wine was pale straw yellow while the Girardin expressed a much darker yellow colour. On the nose they were oceans apart: Girardin was more oaky with tropical fruit, a bit like modern world Chardonnay nose while the Lamy was more subtle with lime, butter and a lovely minerality. The palate was more similar with a lovely balance, fruit and acidity for both although the one by Girardin was more buttery and nutty as compared to Lamy which had more towards l...

Saint Aubin 1er cru Les Creots 2011

What can I say? I managed to get hold of a case of different white Burgundies produced by my new favourite white wine producer called Pierre Yves Colin Morey. I have yet to taste any wines from this guy that is not fantastic. Even the lesser AOC's turns out to be stunning. This guy is a perfectionist and I just love it. This premier cru St.Aubin from the plot Les Creots has a pale yellow green colour and a lovely nose of lime, butter and some spicyness. The taste is just sublime with a wonderful, just wonderful balance and complexity. The wines spend a good time on their lees and maybe that's the reason for the balanced acidity. I dont't know , I just know that it is a truly truly a great wine! Saint-Aubin 2011 Les Creots Premier cru  Colin-Morey High price

Saint Aubin 1er cru En Remilly

What a glorious white wine from Burgundy! Colin-Morey has a very direct style with well hidden oak and a great minerality. I have had the Chassagne Montrachet in London several times and each time it has created a "wine moment"…. I found this Saint Aubin in a local wine store here in Antibes and we had it for lunch today….Omg... Wonderful complex nose of lime, butter , green apples and minerals. Lovely balanced taste and finish. A truly great wine which offers something of the best you can expect from a white wine. Saint Aubin 1er cru En Remilly 2011 Pierre Yves Colin Morey Ca 35€

Saint Aubin 1er cru En Remilly 2007

One of my favorite white wines by Hubert Lamy in Saint Aubin. This is a big bodied white with a wonderful smell of lime, butter, aniseed and vanilla. Great lime green colour and a long fruity (lime)  well balanced taste. It's a wonderful wine and despite it's 6 years it's still drinking wonderfully. Got another 3 in the cave here in Antibes thank God! Had a steak and green salad with this white (too hot for red) and that worked quite well thanks to the great body of this white Burgundy. Saint Aubin 2007 "En Remilly" Hubert Lamy Ca 35€ and worth every penny

Saint Aubin 2010

Vincent Girardin is a top white Burgundy producer and this Sain-Aubin is quite reasonable compared to some of the others. Perfect discrete smell of lime, herbs and butter with a nice balanced and fruity taste with some mineral notes. While drinking white Burgundy there is always a certain "fatness" and fruit to the wine which makes you forget that this is really a bone dry white wine. Perfect with white fish and seafood except salmon or trout. Saint-Aubin "En Remilly" 2010, Vincent Girardin Ca 30€ and probably one of the cheapest StAubin

Saint-Aubin "La Princee" 2010

What a wonderful white Burgundy by Hubert Lamy! This wine is just perfect with white fish and especially fried cod. Beautiful lime, butter and mineral notes. Crispy and elegant taste with great fruit and balance. It's very difficult to pinpoint anything wrong with this wine! In fact it was so good that we consumed two bottles at the resto... Saint-Aubin 2010 "La Princee" by H Lamy What's price got to do with it?

Saint-Aubin La Princee 2011 by Lamy

Hubert Lamy is one of my favourites as he makes wonderful white Burgundies and especially from Saint Aubin. The wine is a full-bodied dry white, perfect for fat white fish like the monkfish. Lots of limy flavors with a bit of a spicy nose. Long balanced taste, very fruity and a bit "fat" taste. Saint-Aubin 2011 "La Princee", Hubert Lamy Price ca 30-35€. Price difference between Norway and France is minor.

Saint Aubin 2007 Lequin-Colin

This is an ordinary white Saint Aubin created by Lequin Colin in Santenay. Pale yellow colour with a very nice nose of butter, lime, flowers and mineral tones. Lovely big firm acidic taste, good length with lime character. Very drinkable. Saint Aubin 2007 Lequin-Colin, "Cheap" very drinkable Saint Aubin ca 20 to 30€ Lequin-Colin - Bourgogne

Saint Aubin 1er cru chez Maison Blanche

We went with Lotta and Jonas yesterday to Maison Blanche to enjoy the nice food, drinks and views this restaurant in the Paris 8 provides. To my great satisfaction Hubert Lamy was on the wine list and we went for the Saint Aubin 1er cru "Les Frionnes" 2007. The wine has a nice mineral smell with touch of apples and lime. The taste is beautifully balanced with a touch of minerals and a long warm fruity buttery finish.  Great stuff with frog legs, fish and risotto.  Lamy continues to impress with well balanced Chardonnays, always a pleasure and we got a case to pick up from the domain early July......

Saint Aubin in Burgundy

This is not a famous Burgundy appelation, but as it is neighbour to two of the most famous white wine appelations Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet, one can expect to find some great white wines here. There are no grand cru, but ten premier cru. The prices are less than its neighbouring wines and it is the white wine which makes it worthwhile buying St. Aubin. We have recently tested quite a few of the white wines of Hubert Lamy, which must be regarded as one of the best producers in St.Aubin. Below is a list of the wines that are all very very good and elegant wines well worth buying. St.Aubin 1er cru "En Remilly" 2005 € 27 Great smell of lime, butter and minerals, "golden" taste  score 18,7 St.Aubin 1er cru "Les Frionnes" 2006 €32 Pale straw colour, apples, minerals, oak, fantastic taste, perfect white Score 18,6 St.Aubin 1er cru "La Chateniere" 2006 €36 Lime, apples, minerals, with long velvety taste another top white Score 18,6 ...

Hubert Lamy

Hubert Lamy is emerging as one of my favourites in Burgundy for production of white wines. When we were back in Norway we had a bottle of the St Aubin En Remilly for a sunny lunch overlooking the fjord. It was a truly spectacular moment. Nice food, nice weather, nice view, beautiful nature, holiday and a fantastic glass of Burgundy white. The experience was wonderful! So back in Paris we were trying to get hold of some more of these precious bottles and found a wine merchant in Neuilly who had some of Hubert Lamy´s collection. So again at lunch time we tried another of Lamy St.Aubin, this time the one called Les Frionnes 2006. Once again the flavours of the wine and the beautiful balanced taste gives you a wonderful moment. Apples, citrus fruits, oak well integrated with a long long fruity glycerin like taste. Just fantastic! There is something about his wines that makes you remember them better than other wines in the same quality range! A must if you havent tried dry burg...
