Nuits St George 1er cru "Les Pruliers" 2001, Henri Gouges

Came across this 2001 Premier Cru red Burgundy, for some reason the price of the 2001 is 30% lower than the actual 2007 that can be found in the shop. Henri Gouges is an unknown producer to me as well as the premier cru plot "Les Pruliers". The plot is around 7 hectares big which is one of the biggest in Nuits St George. According to Jasper Morris Gouges is one of the best producers as well. Anyway, the nose was typical Burgundy with dark berries, flowers and a touch of oak. Quite a solid long taste with perhaps a bit acidic aftertaste (at least if compared to Patrice Rion). A Burgundy that is crying for food and not to be drunk alone. Nuits St George 1er cru "les Pruliers" 2001 (Henri Gouges), P, good but not brilliant Medium price range 380 for 2001, later years at high price range 550.  ::: BIENVENUE SUR LE SITE DE LA MAISON GOUGES :::

Concannon Conservacy Petite Sirah 2008, Livermore Valley USA

This is an American Syrah made from the grape Petite Sirah. Deep dark purple red colour packed with dark berries, nice "cool" fruit and hint of wet wool. The taste is very fruity and packed with a good length and well balanced aftertaste. Quite a nice mouthful at a very favourable price. The winery Concannon has been making this one for more than 50 years now and was the first producing Sirah in California. Conacannon Petite Sirah 2008, Livermore Valley, a good alternative to Cote du Rhone.  Low price range 130 or 15$ . P++  Petite Syrah or Sirah is cross between Syrah and Peloursin (Rhone 1870). Called Durif or Petite Syrah in France. http://www.concannonvineyard.com/

Torus 2009 Madiran

In Madiran they make tannic wines from the grape Tannat (recently mixed with Cabrnet Sauvignon up to 20%). Alain Brumont produces some of the best Madiran that you can find, like Montus and Bouscasse. For the third year running he has also produced a simpler Madiran called Torus that can be drunk at young age. The wine comes with a handy screw cork and is as such ideal for trips to the mountains or the cabin. The wine is dark, dense, masculine, black fruits and tannnic. A charming representative from Madiran made from max 15 years old vines from the Montus vineyards at a reasonable price. Torus 2009, Madiran NOK 130, perfect with confit de canard. Ch Siran 2000, Margaux

Bought a case of this one some years ago and brought it back to Norway. Still some bottles left and the wine is doing great. The colour is medium deep red with no signs of aging. Great "Bordeaux nose" of earth, blackcurrant and minerals. The taste is wonderful complex and heavy with a long finish. Drinking beautifully now but should last another 5 to 10 years. Merlot 54%, Cabernet Sauvignon 28%, Cabernet Franc 6% et Petit Verdot 12% Ch Siran 2000, Margaux, a reasonable and very good Margaux, ca 25€ (recent vintages)  Château Siran

Noble One 1996 by de Bortoli, Riverina in Australia

Has this dessert wine on Xmas eve with cloudberries and Xmas pudding. Fantastic deep golden colour and a wonderful enormous smell of nectarine, peach, honey, citrus and  Xmas pudding (or was that something else?)! The wine is made of Botrytis Semillion grapes grown in the Riverina district and the taste was wonderful sweet and complex with a long delicate great balanced aftertaste. Noble One 1996, de Bortoli, Riverina Australia, competes with Sauternes! 25€ Riverina Tourism De Bortoli Wines: Home

Barolo Ca Mia 2005 by Brovia

This wine is the one of the top 100 Barolos you  should taste. Still early days to drink the 2005, but classical Barolo tones of cherries, tar, leather and some smoke. The taste is dry and well balanced acidity with lotsof  fruit and long challenging taste. Needs at least another 5 years to be on top. The Ca Mia vineyard is only 1 hectare and Brovia produce only 3700 bottles. One empty bottle in our house right now... Barolo Ca Mia 2005 by Brovia, High price 500, too pricy but a decent Barolo. Produzione Barolo CaMia, Barolo Villero, Barolo Rocche, Dolcetto Solatio
