Scarpa 2007 Barbaresco

This Barbaresco by Scarpa from 2007 is drinking beautifully now. The grapes come from a plot called Tetti in Neive, thus the name Tettineive on the bottle. The vilification and maturation has taken place in big french oak casks and one year in bottle before being released. Beautiful smell of rose, tar, red fruit and cherries. Elegant taste with still firm tannins and medium + acidity. Needs a bit of time to open in the glass. Works well in a  Zalto glass and with confit de canard. Barbaresco "Tettineive" 2007 Scarpa ca 35€

Barbaresco Reyna 2009

Inspired by a recent trip to Piemonte we opened a bottle of Barbaresco made by Michele Chiarlo. Quite a medium pale red colour with a brick red rim. Nose is dominated by dried fruit, red fruit and rose petals. Extremely balanced taste with super soft tannins and a long velvety finish. Vinification in steel tanks with storage 18 months in big oak casks. From an area in Barbaresco that has a more sandy soil. Barbaresco "Reyna" 2009  Michele Chiarlo Ca 30€

Credit: Armit Wines TAGS: Highlights Bruno Giacosa  died during the night of Sunday 21 January, in Alba’s San Lazzaro hospital, aged 88 years old, according to  Italian news outlets . He had reportedly been burdened with ill health for some time. Giacosa had attained legendary status in Piedmont – as well as across Italy and beyond – having been part of a new wave of winemakers in the region. ‘One of Italy’s greatest wine producers of all time’ He had bought fruit and bottled Barolo and  Barbaresco  wines since the 1960s, but Giacosa acquired his own vineyard in 1982. His Falletto vineyard in  Serralunga   d’Alba  would go on to become one of the finest crus of the Langhe. He would later buy Barbaresco vineyards, mostly in...

Fontanabianca Barbaresco

This is a very approachable and drinkable Barbaresco even in younger vintages. It is reasonably priced as well. The nose is packed with warm dark fruit, plum and spices. The  dry fruit seems to be absent. The taste is big with from tannins and also a warm round fruity finish which is quite surprising for Barbaresco. Not a very advanced Barbaresco, but a very easy drinking one. Barbaresco 2012 Fontanabianca Medium price (ca 250kr)

Scarpa Barbaresco 2004

Scarpa makes only good wines and this Barbaresco is just stunning. Perfect balanced acidity and tannins and a long long finish. Not for beginners, but oh so good if you are used to a bit of tannins and acidity. Dried fruit and autumn leaves on the nose. Super delicious stuff requiring a bit of food with some extra fat (entrecôte or lamb). Barbaresco Tettineive 2004 Scarpa Bottle 1242 Ca 40€ or 475 NOK

Winetasting Chiarlo Wine #2 Barbaresco Reyna 2009

Chiarlo's Barbaresco has been aged 18 months in large French oak barrels. Garnet colour with brick red rim, so typical Nebbiolo! The nose totally different from the Barbera with tones of pepper, spices and earth. Very delicate and and elegant dry full bodied taste. High tannins, acidity and alcohol. A lovely Barbaresco! Can be stored up to 15 years. Barbaresco 2009 Reyna M Chiarlo, 25€ Perfect with roast and game

Barolo 2008 Marcenasco

Blindtasting Revheim May 2013 Wine #3 Medium deep red colour with brick rim. The taste is sweet jammy like red berries and some dried fruit. Pinot Noir??? Very soft taste with well intefrated tannins of the kind art. Medium acidity and toasty aftertaste. Pinot Noir? Big debate on Nebbiolo vs Pinot. Due to lack of acidity and tannins it was concluded it could not be Nebbiolo. How wrong could we be? Fucking Female Barolo ! FFB.... Barolo Marcenasco 2008 Renato Ratti, 27£ Score 17,67

Barbaresco "Santo Stefano" 1998

A big solid dry red from Barbaresco and Castello di Neive. Medium garnet color with tawny rim. Dried fruit and autumn leaves on the nose. The palate is well balanced between acidity and fruit with mellow tannins. A truly lovely ine crying out for red meat or lamb. Santa Stefano plot is roughly 8 ha (8 footballpitches) where they predominantly grow Nebbiolo. Barbraresco "Santo Stefano" 1998 Castelo de Neive At Planet Wein, Berlin

Barbaresco "Asili" 2005

Barolo and Barbaresco are normally not wines made for drinking without food. High in acidity and tannins it can be a tough wine to digest. It's also a bit pricy. Anyway, I had this in a resto the other day with some fillet of reindeer and I must say the match between food and wine was splendid! On it's own the wine was demanding and tough, but with the reindeer the whole experience was seductive and velvety! Barbaresco "Asili" 2005 Produttori del Barbaresco, High price Perfect with wild meat, game and lamb

Barbaresco 2007 Montestefano

Magnum bottles are brilliant stuff at parties. Nebbiolo with deer or game is also a good combination. The problem some times is that we drink Barbaresco too young. This 2007 opened up after some time in the carafe and the glass, but should have been kept another 5 years in the cellar really. Anyway, still lovely autumn leaves and dried fruit and all that with a firm balanced taste. Barbaresco 2007 "Montestefano", Produttori del Barberaresco Keep as long as you can ...in the cellar

Barbaresco 2007 "montefico"

Bottle number 4773 of this great Barbaresco from the single vineyard "Montefico". Producer is the co-op in Barbaresco, probably one of the world's best co-ops. Medium red colour. The nose is more towards autumn leaves and dried fruit. The taste is firm and long with quite noticable tannins. Needs 4-5 years to open up and smoothen, but a lovely wine already. Especially with lamb. Barbaresco "Montefico" 2007, Ca 30 to 40€ Ellie Goulding "Your Song"

Barbaresco - Paje 1995

Found this old Barbaresco at the restaurant Bovio in La Morra. Single vineyard from the parcel Paje and bottle number 4702.. And what a wine! Barolo maybe the king in Piedmonte but Barbaresco is the Queen. Delicious smell of autumn leaves, cherries and a bit of rose and tar. Long velvety smoth tannic taste. Wonderful balance and drinking perfectly now. Just great with lamb chops... Barbaresco 1995 Paje- Produttori del Barbaresco

Scarpa Barbaresco 2007

Scarpa is one of those great producers in Piemonte. Getting hold of one of his bottles is rarity itself and so is drinking them. This Barberesco from Tetti in Neive is one of the best I have ever tasted although it was only 5 years old when I tried it. Scarpa's Barbaresco is best drunk from 8 years old and onwards and they even have 1988 up in a restaurant in Harstad (Norway) with my name on it. Ruby red with garnet reflections and a very intense smell of oak, autumn leaves, hint of tar. In the mouth it is big and you wonder where this heading but it balances always in the right direction with firm soft tannins and a long intense and complex aftertaste. I need more of these! 460 NOK or 40€. A bargain.....

Barbaresco 2006 by Gaja

When you drink a bottle made by Gaja you are on top of the world as his wines are of extraordinary quality, but do not cheap. I had this bottle in La Morra, in a restaurant near the top (Bovio), with a beautiful view over the Barolo valleys. Let me say that the smell and taste were both extraordinary. His basic Barbaresco is so intense and packed with fruit that you realise that here is a guy who is a devil when it comes to selecting the fruit. Out of this world bouquet with dark berries, dried fruit, chocolate, caramel, sweet dark cherries and hint of tar and mushrooms. An astonishing long and complex taste that just went on and on! Gaja Barbaresco 2006, What's price gotta to do with it?

Barbaresco "Ovello" 2004

This is a single vineyard Barbaresco from one of the best co-ops in the world. Lots of cherries and a bit of spice and smoke on the nose. Long firm aftertaste that is longing for food. Best fit is lamb with all it's fat and that's what we had and it was a perfect match. Due to the firm tannins in the wine the 2004 would be better if kept for another 4-5 years- Maybe the Olympics in Rio would be perfect timing? Barbaresco "Ovello" 2004, Produttori del Barbaresco Firm wine and perfect with lamb (30-45€)(350 NOK)

Two restaurants near Barolo

A couple of days near Barolo in the town of La Morra. Two restaurants well worth visiting: one in the hillside of La Morra and the other one in Santa Maria just down hill from La Morra. The one in Santa Maria has the most amazing list of Barolos plus food to die for at a very reasonable price. It's very popular for dinner so booking in advance is an advantage. Home | Ristorante in La Morra (CN) - Italy | L'Osteria del Vignaiolo The other one is called Ristorante Bovio and is overlooking the slopes of Barolo. Fantastic view (similar to the picture) and wine list again. Ristorante Bovio Enjoy!

Barbaresco 2001 Varaldo

What can I say? A more than ten year old Barberesco which has it all.. Lovely bouqet of autumn leaves, wet forrest and rose. Wonderfully balanced wine that would fit perfectly with a lamb. Great stuff even without food late at night... Barbaresco 2001 , Varaldo ca 35£

Barbaresco

Nebbiolo from Piemonte by the co-op di Barbaresco. Medium dark red with brick red rim. Cherries, dried fruit and tobacco on the nose. Lots of acidity and a great length.  235 Nok or 20€. Fantastic with lamb. Barbaresco, Produttori Barbaresco Great co-op with great quality wines

Wild game wine

Produttori del Barbaresco is one of the best co-ops in Europe. They always provide good wines at good value for money. So also this Barbaresco from the single plot called Ovello. 2004 a great year in Piedmonte adds quality as well. We enjoyed this bottle with fillet of reindeer and the combination was just stunning. Perfect integration of the the tender meat with a slightly rustic but soft tannic wine was just perfect. Barbaresco 2004 "Ovello", Produttori del Barbaresco Only close to 12000 bottles. Just grab whatever you can get. 340 NOK or 30€.

Barbaresco 2005 "Moccagatta"

Produttori del Barbaresco is one of the best coop's around. Their standard Barbaresco always provide good value for money, but this Riserva from the single plot Moccagatta is a step up. Not a typical Xmas lunch wine, but when being served at the price of the standard Barbaresco then its hard to complain (or leave). Floral delicate smell of autumn leaves and cherries. Long wonderful balanced taste matching the fillet of deer perfectly. Barbaresco 2005 Riserva Moccagatta, NOK 360 or 30€. Great complexity and balanced
