Life is too short to drink bad wine

This is a delightful Cote du Rhone by Ch. Beaucastel in Ch.neuf du Pape. It's dark, dense and full of dark fruit with some spicy elements. It will easily improve with time but if decanted first it drinks beautifully now as well. The grapes used for this blend are Grenache 30%, Syrah 20%, Mourvèdre 30%, Cinsault 20%. A bit pricy Cote du Rhone maybe but it's on the border to be classified as a Ch.neuf du Pape and the "mother" wine, Beaucastel, sells for twice to three times the price. this is to be regarded as their second wine really. This is a basic Cote du Rhone which is reasonable priced and of decent quality. Deep red colour and a smell of dark fruit with some pepper (the pepper comes from the 50% Syrah grape). Smooth fruity taste which is a bit spicy as well as quite "warm" as well (typically Grenache... 50%). Should fit many different meat dishes. Price ca 6€ or 130NOK.

A very good and reasonable wine. Deep dark purple colour.  Discrete nose of black fruit and hint of pepper.  Big fruity taste with firm but smooth tannins. High alcohol and medium acidity. This is a big dense dark wine based upon 100% Grenache from Cote du Rhone. The colour is deep dark and the smell is full of dark berries, chocolate and mint. Great stuff! The taste is powerful and fruity. Packed with firm tannins of the softer kind and a long big aftertaste. This is a very good wine indeed by a very good producer (Tardieu-Laurent). This is a very nice and also reasonable wine. Can't go wrong then? 100% unfiltered Syrah from the southern Rhone. Just a perfect cabin wine. Dark berries and dark fruit is just asking you to bring out the BBQ and steak. Domaine d'Andezon 2010, Cote du Rhone Ca 130 NOK or 6€

This is a very cheap Cote du Rhone that is perfect with most red meat. Handy screwcork as well. Dark spicy berries on the nose with a deep dark purple colour. It is a fruity wine with a spicy and warm taste thanks to the 50/50 mix of Syrah and Grenache. CDR by Brunel, 115 NOK or ca 5 euro Cheap drinkable stuff

Jean Louis Chave is a young producer who makes astonishing red and white Hermitage. Those wines are rather expensive (around 140€) so I was ever so pleased when I came across this Cote du Rhone made by him. Probably the most expensive Cote du Rhone I have ever bought (20-30€) but by far the best and most complex Cote du Rhone I have ever sampled. Dark color, packed with fruit and "Bordeaux" like smell. Big solid taste that is fruity, dense and perfectly balanced. Simply great stuff from a difficult vintage (2006). Could be difficult to get hold of.... This wine made from 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah is created by Andre Brunel which is well known for his delicous Chateau Neuf du Pape. Dark red colour with lots of dark berries and plum on the nose. The 2009 is a very hot vintage and with so much Grenache the taste is quite fullbodied with a warm low acidic finish. Red meat and game. This wine from Domaine Brusset in Rhone is a mix of Syrah 20%, Grenache 60%, Mouvedre and Carignan 10%. At the decent low price of 130 it is a very pleasant every day drinking wine full of dark berries and spices. Perfect for cold evenings in front of the fire. It's a full bodied wine, quite rich packed with lovely fruit and a warm dry finish. Will fit most heavy dishes.
