Life is too short to drink bad wine

This is the "ultimum" white wine. It has everything you can imagine ; a lovely and complex bouquet, a gorgeous and delicate taste and a very long finish. Although it's very young (2013) it opens up perfectly  in a Burgundy glass and if you drink it at around 10-12c it will reveal all it's flavours and complexity. Expect to pay 60-100€ for such delicious white wine which is expensive but it's pure magic in the glass! Lequin-Colin has many different white Burgundies and is normally a safe bet in the wine shop.

Saint Aubin is one my favourite white villages in Burgundy or maybe the whole world. It is slightly less expensive than their neighbours in Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault but they always deliver high quality white wines. Especially this premier cru from the plot "En Remilly" is always a winner independent of which producer has made the wine. In my experience white premier cru Burgundies should have at least 5 years in the bottle before being consumed. This enables the wine to develop and show it's true character. When you drink a wine like this then you look for lime, butter, herbs and nuts on the nose with a big solid taste with some minerality. It will set you back 30-40€, but it's worth it.

This property from St.Emilion and the underrated 2004 vintage is just drinking perfectly now. And what a beautiful wine it is! Dark red colour with a lovely bouquet of dark fruit, plum, chocolate and some coffee. Just gorgeous! It's also perfectly balanced on the palate with lots of dark fruit, delightful smooth and velvety taste. Incredible easy drinking and oh so irresistible! Really yummy stuff! Clos de l'Oratoire 2004 St.Emilion Ca 30€ (at the time)   This is the description from Parker: 'I tasted this wine on multiple occasions and some of the samples were more impressive than even this note suggests! Two others were somewhat monolithic, but my instincts suggest the 2004 Clos de l'Oratoire is an outstanding wine. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, it is extremely well-endowed for the vintage. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of espresso roast, chocolate, dried herbs, and plenty of sexy black currant and cherry fruit. Me...

This is just a lovely Pinot Noir from Anthill Farms in Sonoma Coast in California. The colour is light to medium red and the nose is both "fruity" and "refreshing" with delicious aromas of raspberry, red fruit, cellar and plum. The wine is also both light and full bodied with lots of red fruit and a great delightful acidity which is rare in Californian wines. Overall a superbly balanced wine competing with red Burgundy. This Anthill Farms Pinot Noir is from a single vineyard in Sonoma Coast called Campbell Ranch. It's pricier than the normal Anthill version and the colour is deeper leading towards more medium red. The bouquet is just incredible with a lovely "chilled" red fruit that just explodes in the glass. The taste is big, massive and intense with a great complexity and with lots of cold red fruit and a great acidity. This is just a very very nice Pinot and definitely a step up from the basic version which is also very good. Burgundy watch out! Anthill Farms Pinot Noir 2013 Campbell Ranch   Ca 450 NOK or 40$

This is a superduper drop dead gourgeous Pinot from the Sonoma Coast.The colour is rather medium to dark red suggesting maximum extraction and power. The nose is just wonderfully complex and big with lots of "cold" red fruit with hints of chocolate and some redcurrant. The palate is firm, solid, fullbodied, smooth with firm tannins. Lots of red fruit. Very direct in style and a great acidity to go with it. It's too early to drink now and should be kept for 3-4 years for maximum potential. This is just a super lovely wine based on 100% Barbera. There are a lot of various Barbera around which are mostly cheap and easy drinking wines, but which do not talk to you. This one talks to you and that is thanks to the winemaking of Sandrone. Dense dark colour with a lovely purple rim. Big and wonderful aromas of dark cherries, dark fruit, plums and chocolate. Great smooth solid taste with a big structure and mouthful. Lovely balance and acidity. This is good, very good indeed and probably one of the world's best Barbera's. Ca 300 NOK or 25€ Vinous (Galloni): 90 points! "Sandrone's 2012 Barbera d'Alba is all about polish and refinement. Dark red and black stone fruit, spices, leather and menthol meld together in a supple, silky Barbera built on pure texture. Over the last few years Sandrone has lowered the percentage of new oak and reduced toast levels considerably."!

This is a very dense dark and big wine from Tuscany.  Ruby red color with rich and intense tones. Beautiful aroma of herbs accentuated with generous notes of tobacco and wet earth (dry earth, as well), black currant and licorice. The palate reveals medium-smooth tannins and a rich structure and weight with an elegant finish. Requires food!! (lamb or game) Fontalloro is the most representative expression of Fèlsina’s Sangiovese. Fontalloro grapes come from vineyards straddling the border between Chianti Classico and the Chianti Colli Senesi denomination. The vineyards lying within the Chianti Classico appellation are in the highest area of Fèlsina while those in the Chianti Colli Senesi are lower down (407-330 meters above sea level). Having never tried a white Burgundy from Lafon this 2011 was a bit of a shock. An absolute stunning and well balanced Meursault, so beautifully constructed and with an enormous concentration and length. This must be one of the best village Meursault I have ever tried. It's like drinking gold! Elegant nose of peach and ripe yellow apples with discrete lime and butter in addition. An extremely balanced, refines and polished taste. Pricy indeed, but sometimes it is worthwhile to spend the extra money to taste such a beautiful balanced wine. Faboulous on it's own but probably even better in February with fried arctic cod. This is just a fantastic white Burgundy by a great producer called Arnaud Ente. Domaine Arnaud Ente is one of the hottest wine properties in Meursault today and arguably Burgundy's brightest rising star. Stylistically Arnaud's wines lie somewhere between the rich, generous, hedonistic style of Lafon and the precise, mineral, citrus character of Coche-Dury. During the 1990s Arnaud's wines attracted a lot of attention for their opulent style, due to his preference to pick late for maximum ripeness. Since 2000 the wines have displayed a more complex, naturally acidic style with enhanced minerality, which reflects the move to a programme of earlier picking. His wines are now amongst the very finest in the village. This 2007 has a direct style with lots of minerality and acidity and a fantastic nose of butter, lime and "Burgundy spice". This is just a fantastic wine that I had with an entrecote the other day. 100% Carignan and super dark and complex wine. The producer Alfredo Arribas has made a wonderful dense wine. The production is limited to less than 2000 bottles. Deep dark colour and purple rim. Complex and attractive nose of dark fruit, leather, forrest, dark small berries (krekling). The taste is filled with fruit like dark berries and black currant. Big and long finish. Nice acidity and soft integrated tannins. A truly great wine with lovely balance. Tros de Clos 2011 Priorat 500NOK or 50€

Could not resist opening this one down at the cabin on a sunny summer day. Colin-Morey has an impressive list of white wines and this one is no exception. Wonderful and elegant nose with discrete lime, butter, herbs, oak and apples. The taste is so balanced, long and vivid that it is just shocking. A truly great wine and the biggest probelm is that the bottle seems to empty way too fast and that there are limited bottles to be obtained. Puligny Montrachet Les Champs Gain 2011 Pierre Yves Colin Morey Ca 50€

This is super elegant Condrieu by Ogier. The Viognier grape (100%) can be a bit too much some times when mixed heavily with oak, but this one is just perfect. The nose is a bit white Burgundy like but with tones of more tropical fruit than lime or sitrus. Discrete and delicious. The taste is like a fullbodied white, packed with fruit and flavours like white peach and more tropical flavours. Lovely balance and great acidity. This is perfect with asian food or seafood. A nearly 20 year old Champagne which is drinking beautifull right now! Medium yellow colour with small bubbles. Notes of sherry on the nose with toast and yeast. Beautifully balanced taste with a nice minerality and a long aftertaste. A very nice vintage Champagne which is reasonably priced compared to other houses. Henriot 1996 Ca 40€

One of the top plots in Saint-Aubin and one of the best producers, then it just has to be right! Pale yellow colour with hint of green. Super delicious smell of ripe tropical fruit, lime, spicy oak and butter. Great fruity complex taste which is drinking perfectly now. Unfortuntaley this was the last bottle.... A very good white Burgundy indeed. Saint-Aubin 1er cru En Remilly 2007 Hobert Lamy Ca 35€

Cent-Vignes is one of my favourite plots in Beaune and the 2012 vintage is no exception. It's interesting to see the difference between the different premier cru plots in Beaune. Same producer, same year, just a a different piece of earth. The Cent Vignes is dominated by dark fruit with lots of black pepper and smoke. The palate is strcutured, elegant, smooth with a lovely balance and acidity. A young wine with lots of potential and could easily be kept for 5 years. Beaune "Cent-Vignes" 2012 Albert Morot Ca 27€

Rion has quite a nice selection of Burgundies and this one is yet another of my favourites. Deep red colour with purple rim. Lots of attractive dark and sweet berries , with hints of chocolate, coffee and some pepper. A big solid wine with soft and elegant  tannins and lots of fruit. A great wine. Nuits St.George 2011 Clos des Argillieres Patrice Rion Ca 43€

It's a bit early drinking the 2011 Charmes right now because the 2004 which I still have some left of is drinking perfectly right now. Very similar smell to the Chambolle Musigny village wine from the same year but more complex nose with sweet red fruit and chocolate. Shockingly nice and complex taste with firm but soft tannins. A great wine that can easily be stored 5 more years and be even better then. The only problem with wines from Patrice Rion is that bottles seems to empty way too quickly... Crisis what Crisis! This is the last bottle of the 2011 Chambolle by Patrice Rion. Having bought a case of all his vintages since 2006 it is hard to believe how fast a case disappears and the consistent quality of these wines. Lovely sweet red fruit on the nose with some smoke, chocolate and earthy flavours. Very decadent and elegant as always. A superb delicate taste with an elegant long soft stunning balanced aftertaste. Wine does not get very much better than this just more expensive! Pls Patrice just send send some more cases...!! Chambolle Musigny 2011 Patrice Rion Ca 30€

I bought this wine at the Domaine in April this year. Deep dark red colour with purple rim. Not a very typical Pinot nose as the dominant bouquet is made up of cassis, dark and red berries, smoke, coffee and chocolate. Very nice indeed. The taste is enormously structured with lots of finesse, packed with firm and elegant tannins. Super delicious Pinot with lots of weight. A big and massive wine that require more time to develop. Clos Saint Denis Grand cru 2012 Domaine Bertagna Ca 60€ (I seem to remember...)
