Meursault 2017

This is a stunning white Burgundy from Meursault and its from 2017. I came across this wine during a wine festival in Oslo and it really stood out according to my taste. Delightful nose of yellow apples. lime, honey and spices. A taste that is super balanced with a delicate long finish. Outstanding wine and just very very smooth and light. Heitz Lochardet is an unknown producer to me but I really need to know about the wines from this one. Meursault La Barre 2017 Heitz Lochardet ca 40€ or 500 NOK Wine does not get better than this just more expensive!

Meursault 2013

Two Meursault tried at the same time; both from Domaine Chavy-Chouet, both from 2013. The basic Meursault is the Clos des Corvees de Citeau near the town and the other one of the top Premier cru plots Les Genevrieres. Both with a delicious smell of butter, lime and spices. Perhaps the premier cru was slightly more refined. The taste was beautifully balanced offering great pleasure. The premier cru was pure, elegant and with some mineral notes (0.15 hectare with vines from 1945). De Citeau is 1 ha and has more clay giving a rich and concentrated style. Try with fried or BBQ fish and possibly Brie de Maux (if not too strong) Meursault 2013 by Chavy Chouet Clos des Corvees de Citeau &  Les Genevrieres ca 20-40€

Meursault 2010 Rémi Jobard

A challenge with older white Burgundies are still oxidation. Therefore I have decided not to keep such wines if they are older than 8 years. Last year when I was emptying my stock nearly half of the 2007 and 2008 vintages were oxidised! This one by Remo Jobard from Meursault is drinking beautifully now. Delicious lime, butter, spice, yeast and oak flavours on the nose. Gorgeous balanced taste with a velvety long finish. Perfect meditation wine at the cabin! Meursault "En Luraule" 2010 Remi Jobard 400 NOK or 35€ (much more expensive from 2015+)

Barbera d'Alba 2015

This is just a wonderful complex and drinkable Barbara d'Alba by Bruno Giacosa. Not the most reasonable one but certainly an example of how good a Barbara can be. Dark red purple colour. Wonderful and complex nose of dark fruit, chocolate, plum. Big juicy long and perfectly balanced taste with soft tannins and great finish. Just love it! Barbera d'Alba 2015 Bruno Giacosa Ca 20€ or 290NOK

Meursault 2010 Domaine Remi Jobard

One of the labels on this blog is called Meditation wine. The wines I choose to label like that are wines that do not require food as they are so lovely just on its own. On its own when things are bad and you need to be cheered up or there is something to celebrate. Or maybe because you are worth it! This Meursault by Remi Jobard from 2010is like that. Drinking perfectly now with a super delicious smell of butter, lime, white flowers and some spice. Perfectly balanced with a long velvety finish. Pure and full bodied white. A truly lovely wine. If you want food try with fried cod or Comte cheese. Meursault 2010 En Luraule Remi Jobard Ca 40€ or 500 NOK

Meursault 2008

Some of the older white Burgundies are cheaper than the most recent ones where the price has increased due to high demand and low supply. This 2008 Meursault by Jobard is drinking perfectly right now although the first I opened was oxidated. Lovely medium straw colour with a nose dominated by lime, butter and spices. Perfect full bodied white with a long aftertaste and still with a lot of energy. A truly lovely wine. Meursault 1er cru Poruzots 2008 Antoine Jobard Ca 40€ or 550 NOK

Lunch at Fish & Cow

The other day I had a fantastic lunch at the local restaurant called Fish & Cow. Two of the reasons for going there were the wine list and the very knowledgable wine waiter who is one of the few in Norway with a Master of wine title. Pierre Yves Colin Morey, as you can see from other articles on this blog,  has emerged as one of my favourite wine producers in Burgundy. His white wines are so pure, magical,  remarkable and wonderful that they are made for meditation, they do not really require food as the wine itself is such an experience. The four of us started off with a premier cru Chassagne Montrachet from 2011 and a 11 acre plot called Les Chenevottes. It's a cool, flat plot which is not too humid and the wines from here are fine supple wines. Beautiful aroma of discrete lime, butter and lots minerals. Amazing purity all along. The balance was just wonderful and each sip became like a religious ritual. A stunning wine which every restaurant should be proud of ...

Meursault 1er cru Poruzots by Jobard

Jobard is a very good producer of Meursault wines and especially the premier crus like Poruzots. The 2008 vintage is drinking perfectly now and offers a wonderful palate and taste. Notes of butter, lime and some spices on the nose. Super delicious balanced taste with a lively acidity. This wine is perfect with fried cod but also other types of seafood and white fish. A truly great Chardonnay wine that is unfortunately just getting more and more expensive. Ca 40-50€....

Meursault Blagny 2008 by Jobard

What can I say? White Premier cru Burgundy with a bit of age and from recognised producer. What can go wrong? This Meursault from Blagny has all the ingredients that you desire from a top white Burgundy: - seductive - enormous balance - great acidity - super delicious nose Every drop is a pleasure. Pure delight. Bring on the fried Gadus Morhua (skrei/cod).  Meursault 1er cru Blagny 2008 Antoine Jobard High price

Meursault 2011 by Domaine des Comtes Lafon

Having never tried a white Burgundy from Lafon this 2011 was a bit of a shock. An absolute stunning and well balanced Meursault, so beautifully constructed and with an enormous concentration and length. This must be one of the best village Meursault I have ever tried. It's like drinking gold! Elegant nose of peach and ripe yellow apples with discrete lime and butter in addition. An extremely balanced, refines and polished taste. Pricy indeed, but sometimes it is worthwhile to spend the extra money to taste such a beautiful balanced wine. Faboulous on it's own but probably even better in February with fried arctic cod. Meursault 2011 Domaine des Comtes lafon High Price.

Meursault 2007 by Arnaud Ente

This is just a fantastic white Burgundy by a great producer called Arnaud Ente. Domaine Arnaud Ente is one of the hottest wine properties in Meursault today and arguably Burgundy's brightest rising star. Stylistically Arnaud's wines lie somewhere between the rich, generous, hedonistic style of Lafon and the precise, mineral, citrus character of Coche-Dury. During the 1990s Arnaud's wines attracted a lot of attention for their opulent style, due to his preference to pick late for maximum ripeness. Since 2000 the wines have displayed a more complex, naturally acidic style with enhanced minerality, which reflects the move to a programme of earlier picking. His wines are now amongst the very finest in the village. This 2007 has a direct style with lots of minerality and acidity and a fantastic nose of butter, lime and "Burgundy spice". Meursault 2007 Clos des Ambres Anraud Ente High price

Meursault Genevrieres

Genevrieres is one of the three top premier cru in Meursault (the other two being Charmes and Perrieres). Meursault has for some obscure reason no grand cru wines, but these three plots are normally of such high standard. The name of this plot derives from the juniper bushes that used to grow in this area. The vineyard has a high mineral content as one of the trade marks. The wine has a pale straw colour with a beautiful nose of white flowers, sitrus and minerals. The taste is amazingly light and refreshing with lots of fruit and minerality. An incredible balance throughout which makes it just heavenly to drink. An amazing white with less butter and hazelnut that normally describes a top white Burgundy. Meursault Genevrieres 1er cru 2011 Domaine Michelot High price

Meursault Charmes 2013 Chavy Chouet

Chavy Chouet is a family owned property in Meursault and they make really nice natural Burgundies. I visited them last week and we had a friendly show around in their small cave. Most of  the wines are sold immediately and now they only had some of the newly bottled 2013 vintage left. Les Charmes being one of the best plots in Meursault was one of my favourites and I even booked a case of the limited 2013 to ensure to have it in my personal stock for the future. Fantastic smell of lime, butter and minerality (wet stone). Delicious taste with an enormous balance. A truly lovely wine for meditation or seafood. Meursault 2013 Les Charmes Chavy Chouet High price

Meursault 2010 premier cru Le Purosot

What is there to say? Shockingly good white Burgundy with a style and elegance beyond belief. If you want to know what all the fuzz about Meursault is , then try this one. Don't serve it too cold though, then you lose some of the flavours. Remember big glasses and carafe it first. Light golden colour with hint of green. Intense smell of stone fruit, flint and some smoke. Big intense beautiful structured wine, long aftertaste with a wonderful minerality. Meursault premier cru Le Purusot 2010 Benjamin Leroux ca 600 nok or 50€

Meursault l'Ormeau 2008

This is super delicious white Burgundy from Meursault. The producer Coche-Boouillot has really hit the target with this one. Pale straw colour with a hint of green. A very rich and beautiful constructed smell of sitrus, butter and minerals. The taste is so balanced and delicate that you just have to drink slowely to treasure every second. Long aftertaste, very concentrated, big solid taste with a nice mineral finish. A truly great Meursault. Meursault "l'Ormeau" 2008 Coche-Bouillot High price (440 NOK or 40€)

Meursault Les Vireuils 2011 by Benjamin Leroux

This is just a super delicious Meursault by Benjamin Leroux. Very pricy, but ridiculously good. Pale yellow green colour. Fantastic minerality and lime, butter and spices on the nose. Simply stunning. The taste is superbly balanced with great length and a lovely acidity. A wonderful wine, perfect for mediation. Decant and serve at around 12-13c, if it is too cold you will not understand what the fuzz is about. Meursault 2011 Les Vireuils Benjamin Leroux High price

Meursault 2012 Domaine Chavy Chouet

Sometimes you deserve something special. White Burgundy is 100% Chardonnay just as Chablis, but is a totally different world. The best white Burgundies come from Chassagne Montrachet, Pulugny Montrachet, Corton, Saint Aubin and of course Meursault. They are not cheap, but they are full bodied dry whites with a lovely seductive smell of lime, butter, minerals and spices. A wine like this is perfect with white fish and especially with a butter sauce. Use big Burgundy glasses for such wines otherwise you will not understand what's the fuzz is all about. It should also be drunk at around 12-13c.

Meursault 2012 Les Narvaux by Colin-Morey

I found this Meursault by Colin-Morey at the wine shop the other day and what a wine! Not cheap but what a lovely wine! Great pale lemon green colour which sets the theme for the wine. Lovely smell of lime, herbs, butter and apples. Fantastic acidity, great mellow fruit, lovely balance. A very rich white wine, perfect with white fish. A great wine! Ca 50€.

Vinforum 2014 - Meursault 2010
