Domaine Wachau Riesling Smaragd 2011

This is a great Riesling from a tiny plot called Achleiten in Wachau in Austria. A full bodied dry (close to off dry) white of the quality Smaragd. Remarkable well balanced and fruity wine with a nice acidity and long mineral finish. The nose has citrus fruit as well as stone fruit like peach. An elegant dry white that can be kept for quite a few years. Domane Wachau Riesling Smaragd 2011 Achleiten, Wachau Top Riesling from Austria, Ca 220 NOK or 15€

Morey St Denis 1er cru "Les Ruchots" by Arlaud

Oh what a super delicious Burgundy by Arlaud! This is just pure silk. Just stunning. Medium purple colour and a nose filled with sweet raspberries, chocolate and earthy flavours. Fantastic balanced wine with velvety tannins, lovely red fruit and a perfect acidity. Medium to long harmonic finish. It is just gourgeous! High price... Morey St.Denis 1er cru Les Ruchots Domaine Arlaud Perfect harmony from start to end.

Chassagne Montrachet

Cabin, sea, sun and seafood is for me white Burgundy time. This classic Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru is made in only 250 bottles and the one we had was bottle number 157. This is "Jaguar" Chardonnay with all the full body, lime, butter and minerals you desire. An elegant subtle big white Burgundy that is pricy but oh so good. Not widely available and around 40€... Chassagne Montrachet 1er cru "Morgeot" 2010 Rene Lequin-Colin Stunning is the word...

Cote Rotie 2009 Montez

This is a great Cote Rotie which is not too expensive. Deep dark purple color. Lots of dark fruit, brambles and pepper. Fruity well balanced taste with soft tannins. Nice to drink now but can easily be kept 3-5 years. Try with game or red meat. Cote Rotie by Montez 2010 Ca 25€ Big wine wine but very easy drinking

Schramsberg 2009 Blanc de Blancs

Sparkling wine from other parts of the world can sometimes be a good alternative to real Champagne. This one from Calistoga in California has all the right qualities, the Champagne method has been used and it is in addition made from only Chardonnay grapes and is also a vintage "Champagne" as well. Lovely smell of apple, bread, toast and yeast. Dry fruity taste with a good acidity and mousse. Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs 2009 Ca 250 NOK As aperitif or with seafood

Bonny Doon Syrah 2007

100% Syrah from Bien Nacido in Santa Maria in California. Deep purple color with a nose of jammy brambles. The taste is big, delicate and packed with fruit. The wine is expensive, but Bonny Doon makes interesting wines that are worth a try. Try with red meat and game. Bonny Doon Syrah 2007 Bien Nacido, Santa Maria Valley, California Big massive wine. Ca 360 NOK or 40usd

Champagne Jacquesson Cuvee no 735

This is a lovely but slightly non vintage Champagne. major parts of the grapes (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier) comes from the 2007 vintage. Pale gold color, lovely wet breadcrumbs on the nose and a refreshing dry taste with delightful small bubbles. This Champagne house opened in 1798 and they have quite a good selection of vintage Champagne as well. Jacquesson Cuvee 735 Champagne, Ca 350 NOK or 35-40€ In victory and defeat....

Barbaresco "Asili" 2005

Barolo and Barbaresco are normally not wines made for drinking without food. High in acidity and tannins it can be a tough wine to digest. It's also a bit pricy. Anyway, I had this in a resto the other day with some fillet of reindeer and I must say the match between food and wine was splendid! On it's own the wine was demanding and tough, but with the reindeer the whole experience was seductive and velvety! Barbaresco "Asili" 2005 Produttori del Barbaresco, High price Perfect with wild meat, game and lamb

Leitz Riesling Spatlaese

This is a very fruity and easy drinking dry white of high quality but not too expensive. It's made from late harvested Riesling grapes but all the sugar has been transformed to alcohol to give a dry style of wine. Some redisual sweetness though and packed with fruit makes this wine very easy to drink on it's own or with white fish or sushi. Leitz Rudesheimer Bischofsberg Spaetlese Trocken 2011, Rheingau, Germany A very drinkable dry white. Ca 170 NOK

Meursault 2010 "En Dressolles"

Normally I find Meursault a bit too oaky and buttery some times, but not this one. Great smell of lime with some butter flavours but most importantly a wonderful acidity and minerality. This an elegant and "slim" Meursault which is perfect with seafood and white fish. Meursault 2010 "En Dressolles" Huber-Verdereau Ca 50€ in a Parisian resto (good price)

Condrieu by Montez 2009

I just love Condrieu! This is one of the true great white wines on planet earth. It is a full bodied white with a fantastic succulent aroma and a big oily taste. The Viognier grape in the Upper part of Rhone has no match anywhere else, but due to the steep hills, hand harvest and low yields it does not come cheap. Perfect with hard cheese like Comte, seafood or spicy food like Thai or Chinese. Condrieu 2010 by Montez Ca 30€ and truly great

The Beacon Shiraz 2005 Fairview

This is a 100% shiraz (or syrah) based wine from Paarl in South Africa. Fairview has a special selection that includes bush vines from certain parts of Paarl that are of really high quality. Lovely dark ruby color with a delicate nose of brambles, sweet dark fruit and some pepper. Big fruity taste and 15% alcohol! A truly seductive wine that can match most Upper Rhone versions on price and quality. The Beacon Shiraz 2005 Paarl, South Africa Ca 20€ Bring on a nice steak!

Ch de Saint Cosme 2010 Gigondas

This is a deep dark ruby coloured wine from Gigondas in Rhone with a mix of 4 different grapes Mourvedre, Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah. Lovely smell of dark fruit (brambles, blueberries) and a bit of cigar box. Full bodied wine with big firm tannins and a lovely minerality. Probably one of the best and most expensive Gigondas that exists. High in alcohol. Ch de Saint Cosme 2010 Gigondas ca 240 kr or 20€ Big and fruity wine that goes with red meat.
