Life is too short to drink bad wine

I bought this wine at the Domaine in April this year. Deep dark red colour with purple rim. Not a very typical Pinot nose as the dominant bouquet is made up of cassis, dark and red berries, smoke, coffee and chocolate. Very nice indeed. The taste is enormously structured with lots of finesse, packed with firm and elegant tannins. Super delicious Pinot with lots of weight. A big and massive wine that require more time to develop. Clos Saint Denis Grand cru 2012 Domaine Bertagna Ca 60€ (I seem to remember...)

This is the only white wine produced from the famous Clos de Vougeot area. Le Clos Blanc, which was chosen to be dedicated to white wine production by munks quite some time ago, is situated just to north of the Clos de Vougeot. Pale yellow colour with hint of green. The bouqet is just fantastic with discrete notes of lime, butter and then more apparant almond, smoke and minerals tones. It's a big fat white wine but with plenty acididty and minerality. Harmonious and beautifully balanced. Just superb. Domaine de Vougeraie has monopole on the production.

It's really hard to understand how Clos-Vougeot how can be so different from it's neighbours Chambolle and Vosne-Romanee. The two express grace and velvety finesse, while the Clos is most of the time a massive Pinot beast with firm tannins and big acidity. Hmm.. This Clos as well; Great dark red fruit with a massive big, firm and acidic taste that takes your breath away and you wonder: how can this be a Pinot Noir? Anyway a truly great wine and a perfect balance, but it's so solid and big! Clos de Vougeot 2000 Ch de la Tour Grand cru Not cheap at all...

Still at the 28-50 wine bar in London.... So what can wrong when you order a top Burgundy by a top producer that is nearly 10 years old...? Nothing really. A bit slow start , but than the nose opens up with massive red fruit and a touch of minerality. The taste is very firm as can be expected from a Clos de Vougeot, but Arnoux has managed to move towards the soft and elegant side. Big massive finish that seems to go on and on... Omg... Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2004 Robert Arnoux, His plot is 0,45 ha... Not cheap....

Visited the wine shop of Berry Brothers & Rudd last time while in London. Vougeot is well known for their astonishing red wines but there is also a small patch of land where they grow Chardonnay. Lovely pale yellow colour and a smell of delicate lime and butter. Long lively dry taste which is perfectly balanced. Great stuff! Vougeot 1 er cru , Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot 2007. Domaine de la Vougeraie. Ca 69£. Worth every penny

Ch de la Tour part of Clos du Vougeot is a fantastic complex wine! The 2001 tasted at Cafe de France in Stavanger the other day is creme de la creme from Burgundy and was a wonderful experience matching the deer perfectly. Lovely red colour and a vibrant complex smell of red fruit, truffles and violet. The taste being long and well balanced with ample muscle and plenty of sap with a firm and elegant tannic finish. Classic Clos de Vougeot ! and perfect balance between soft tannins and the acidity. http://www.chateaudelatour.com/ Wonderful!

Vougeot is most known for its Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot with over 80 producers, but there are some basic Vougeot as well. One of the best is Clos de Prieure where Domaine de la Vougeraie has all the rights. 2007 is quite a stylish year in Burgundy, not too hot, but with lots of ripe fruit due to an early warm spring. The wine is medium dark red, lovely smell of cherries, raspberry and vanilla oak. Slightly minerally also. The wine has a lovely silky firm taste that is quite long and balances perfectly all the way through. Lovely stuff with a price that is not to scary! This is "poor" man's Clos de Vougeot ! Clos de Vougeot 2006 in a Chinese restaurant? In snowy cold windy Oslo? Everything is possible. This famous Grand Cru from Burgundy is found in a chic Chinese restaurant close to Frogner stadium where Oscar Mathiesen used to speed skate. The only problem with this famous appelation is that there are more 100 parcels of this 0,5 square km plot of land with roughly 80 producers who produce roughly 1000 bottles each. Seguin Manuel has a plot towards the bottom of the Clos (close to RN 74 to Beaune) where the soil has a higher clay content. The nose was a bit closed with heavier red berries components, but with an astonishing velvety big mouthfilling texture that just went on and on. Fantastic taste and length. Wonderful complexity with firm silky tannins. We were lost for words. And with the crispy duck it was great. Clos de Vougeot 2006 Grand cru - Seguin-Manuel, Lost for words a must!
