Sancerre 2016 Boulay

There are many different producers (managers) of Sancerre. They all have their own style and expression of the Sauvignon Blanc from this region. This one has the expression of 45 years old ecological grown vines from the area around Chavignol. And I must it is one of my favourite Sancerre. Not the cheapest one, but definitely one of the best ones. Beautiful complex aromatic nose citrus, flowers, minerals and green and yellow fruit. Long, complex and well balanced taste. Lovely acidity touch of minerality. Sancerre 2016 Gerard Boulay Ca 270NOK or 20€

Sancerre "Les Chailloux" 2012 by Claude Riffault

This is a bone dry and very crispy Sancerre. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are grown in a small area where the soil is predominantly flint which gives wines with a very expressive minerality. Pale straw colour and a delicate boquet of gooseberries and citrus fruit. The taste is very clean and fresh, extremely zingy and zesty with a lovely mineral finish (wet stone). Perfect with seafood. Ca 220 NOK or 15€

Sancerre

This is a basic Sancerre by Henri Bourgeois who is one of the best and reliable producers in that region. It's a very fresh, green and zesty dry white with lots of  apples, lime and green herbs. It has been only slightly oaked (5 months) and the taste is dominated by fresh crispy flavours, citrus and minerality. Perfect with most types of seafood and cheese. Sancere Grand Reserve 2014 Henri Bourgeois Ca 15€ or 190 NOK

Sancerre 2014

I met a friend at the local wine shop the other day and he gave me this one to try out. As the weather was "warm" and sunny  the wine was sampled the same day. Pale straw colour with a delightful smell of gooseberries, white flowers, citrus fruit and grapefruit. The wine is superdry like most Sancerre. This one is unoaked and is thus even more zingy, zesty and crispy compared to many other Sancerre. I just love the style; very refreshing and clean. Perfect for hot summer days. Sancerre 2014 Daniel Chotard Ca 185 NOK or 14€

Sancerre Claude Riffault 2012

This is a crystal clear zingy and zesty Sancerre. The vines (Sauvignon Blanc) are between 10 and 50 years old and grow in clay-limestone marl soil. Known locally as “Terre Blanches”, this clay soil dates back to the Kimmeridgian age of the secondary Jurassic era, 140 million years ago. This soil allows the vine to take root deep down. It provides fullness and richness to the wine, whilst the limestone subsoil and small shell sediments endow it with a fine minerality. The wine is vinified in stainless steel vats (approx 50%) and barrels (approx 50%). Ageing lasts 7 to 8 months, when the wine is bottled before the arrival of summer. On the nose, the wine reveals aromas of white fleshed fruit and citrus. The fine minerality and acidity gives the wine freshness. It can be enjoyed on its own or with shell-fish or fish dishes. Sancerre "Les Boucauds" Claude Riffault Medium price

Sancerre 2011 - Reverdy

This is an un-oaked Sancerre, fresh, young and aromatic. Citrus and apple on the nose with a bit of gooseberries and blackcurrant leaves. Delightfully "green" and fresh. Super dry fresh taste with green apples and a very nice minerality on the finish. This wine should be drunk when young and served straight from the fridge. Hint: The wine can easily stay opened in the fridge for 24 hours, it will only improve…. Sancerre 2011 Reverdy Ca 12€ or 170NOK

Sauvignon Blanc - what does the grape say

Sauvignon Blanc is a green grape which is widely grown. It is used alone in bone dry whites in Sancerre, Pouilly-Fume,  New Zealand, Chile and South Africa. It is blended in Bordeaux where it is made into a sweet or dry white wines. What to expect from the Colour Pale lemon green colour What to expect from the Smell Herbaceous aromas like grass and blackcurrant leaves. Gooseberries. Warmer climate wines tend to have more passion fruit and grapefruit. What to expect from the Taste Sancerre and pure Sauvignon Blanc wines are bone dry white wines. Very zingy and zesty flavors with  crispy fruity taste. Fruity and high acidity. Best Regions for Sauvignon Blanc There are really good Sauvignon Blanc from many parts of the world. In France the two best regions are Poilly-Fume and Sancerre in Loire. In New Zealand,  Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough is legendary, while coastal regions in Chile and South Africa also produce excellent Sauv...

Sancerre Rose 2011 by Saget

It's summer, even in Norway. Time for rose! The Saget white Sancerre is not very impressive but his Sancerre Rose is quite all right and reasonable as well. Smoked salmon colour, nice smell of strawberries and red fruit and light refreshing taste. 100% Pinot Noir has been used for this wine. Sancerre Rose 2011, Guy Saget. Ca 110 NOK (tax free) or 7€.  It's finally summer (holiday)!!!

Sancerre 2010 by Domaine Vacheron

Vacheron is a small producer in the middle of the Sancerre town. He has two different whites and a beautiful Pinot Noir as well. The white Sancerre is packed with fruit and seems less acidic than other Sancerre (more like a New Zealand type). So not so zingy and zesty on the nose and less bone dry than other Sancerre. Fruity elegant long vivid taste. Sancerre 2010 Vacheron Ca 200 NOK or 15€ an adorable Sancerre

Sancerre- Reverdy

Sancerre wines are bone dry and perfect for those hot summer evenings. It is also it is perfect with seasonal fresh asparagus. The sauvignon blanc achieves a beautiful minerality in the Kimmeridge layers of Sancerre. The "terre blanches" is exactly the same fossil rich earth that is found in Chablis (Upper Jurassic limestone). This Sancerre is crystal clear with gooseberries, green apples and lime. Lovely bone dry taste packed with well balanced acidity. Serve cold and drink fast! Grilled asparagus and cheese should be perfect matches. Sancerre 2011, Reverdy Ca 15€ or 170 NOK

Sancerre by J Mellot

This is a classy and a bit pricy Sancerre, but sometimes you are worth it. Grass, citrus, and herbs on the nose. Quite a decent Sauvignon Blanc nose from Sancerre. Well balanced kind acidity makes it very approachable and less zingy and zesty like many Sauvignon Blancs from the cooler parts of the world. Perfect match with goat cheese, asparges and white fish (+soup) Sancerre " La Moussiere", Alphonse Mellot ca 200 NOK or 15€. A "mellow" Sancerre for late outdoor evenings.

Sancerre Rose by Joseph Mellot

This Rose wine from Sancerre has a great wild salmon colour. The wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir and has a discrete floral smell with hints of raspberries. The taste is dry with a nice freshness and fruit. Normally Sancerre Rose are quite expensive, but this one is not. Goes with white meat, exotic dishes and sweet savoury dishes. Serve cold max 10c. Sancerre Rose, Joseph Mellot, Low price 135 (7€) high enjoyment.

Sancerre by Henry Natter

Sancerre is a bone dry white with beautiful aromas of gooseberries/lime/green leaves and minerals. It should be drunk young and cold. It goes well with fish, seafood or as an aperitif. It is also one of the few wines that matches Asian dishes and sushi. Sancerre is in the middle of France and sort of belongs to Loire. Geologically Sancerre and Chablis wines belong to the same period (Upper Jurassic), but the grapes are different. In Sancerre the white grape is Sauvignon Blanc while Chablis has Chardonnay.  Sancerre 2010 by Henry Natter, low  price 179, bone dry delicious white

Sancerre - Domaine Vacheron

This Domaine is one of the best in Sancerre if not the best. He makes bone dry Sauvignon Blanc from silex and limestone soil as well as some marvellous Pinot Noir that resembles burgundy. You can visit him in his small winery downtown Sancerre, somewhat difficult to find as it is not advertised like certain others, but well worth a visit and taste. The best red is called "Belle Dame" Pinot Noir and is deep dark coloured wine like a Burgundy from the northern part, with smoky, toasty, wet wool smell and a long great taste. It´s nothing like the other Pinot Noir from Sancerre which is normally light fruity and more Beaujolais like. For white (just Sancerre or Sancerre "Romains" ) both of them are excellent dry fruity wines with lots of mineral stone flavours and well balanced finish. Its really the Rolls Royce of Sancerre! and is more like a bone dry Chablis then Sancerre! The "Romains" comes from just silex soil and the yield is down to 45hl/ha, way belo...

Sancerre

In Sancerre they make bone dry white wine based upon Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are aromatic, zingy, zesty, minerally, fresh, beautiful and inexpensive. Perfect with aspargus and the local goat cheese! But also with salad, white meat, quiche or as an aperitif. When we visited this town, situated on top of a big fault of Kimmeridge limestone, we had the pleasure of eating well and visiting many of the producers in the region. The neighbours in Menetou Salon and Pouilly Fume make the same type of wine. The best ones that I can recommend (found easily everywhere) are; Henri Bourgeois, Sancerre Henry Pelle, Menetou-Salon Henry Natter, Sancerre Andre Dezat, Sancerre Vacheron, Sancerre (rolls royce Sancerre - my favorite) Alphone Mellot, Sancerre (more pricey) They also make a beautiful Rose and some Pinot Noir red.
