Muscadet Sevre et Maine 2010

This is a truly special wine from Muscadet Sevre et Maine on the west coast in Loire. This underrated area has very reasonable dry white wines based on the grape Melon de Bourgogne. In addition they use prolonged storage on the lees to create a smooth style of white wine. This one from 2010 that was bottled in 2015 has no less than 5 years on the lees! Medium to pale yellow colour. Developed nose of ripe citrus, yellow apples,  butter, tropical fruit and some  nutty flavours. Beautiful balanced taste with a medium body and medium long aftertaste. Good value for money. Perfect with oysters. Muscadet Sevre et Main Sur lie 2010 Ch Thebaud Clos des Tabardieres Ca 13€ or 189 NOK

Muscadet and oysters

"Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur lie" is a very underestimated dry white wine from the very west of the Loire valley. It is reasonable but complex and it is the perfect match with oysters. Forget expensive Champagne, just go for the Muscadet which also has spent time (12 months) on the lees and which gives a very round and big complex taste. Discrete ripe yellow apples, some citrus and brioche on the nose. Ch. de la Ragotiere and this cuvee Amelie was just gorgeous. And Muscadet is easy to find in a wine shop near you.

Anjou Blanc 2012

Super delicious dry white from Anjou based on Chenin Blanc. Very fruity taste and an extreme acidity. Sweet stone fruit on the nose. Great balanced wine with a nice minerality. Food is required though. Anjou Blanc 2012 Thibaud Boudignon  Medium price

Taurus- Muscadet

Wine from Loire (Muscadet) by Domaine l'Ecu based on the white grape called Melon de Bourgogne. Again completely biodynamic winemaking which this domaine has been doing since 1998. The wine requires 4-5 hours decanting but who has got time for that? Opened it yesterday and had a few glasses then and the rest today (better today…). Medium yellow green color. Great minerality on the nose with some citrus fruit, white flowers and a bit of grapefruit. The taste is bone dry with a perfect balanced acidity. Crying out for seafood. A great wine! Taurus 2011 Domaine l'Ecu Loire (Muscadet Severe et Main) Ca 30€

Savennieres 1992 Domaine aux Moines

What an extraordinary dry white wine! Made from Chenin Blanc, over 20 years old and from Savennieres district in Loire. Medium golden color and pronounced smell of apricot, honey and tropical fruit. Dry taste with medium acidity and a touch of minerals. Quite an unusual white wine. Ca 215kr or around 15€ which is a decent price. Domaine aux Moines 1992 Savennieres A very interesting white!

Domaine Saint-Nicolas "Le Haut de Clos"

This is a wine from Domaine Saint Nicolas in the Loire. Based upon 100% Chenin blanc it is just a wonderful dry white wine, perfect with fish for example. Fiefs Vendeens  is an unknown wine district on the coast just where the Loire river spills into the Atlantic. Medium yellow colour with hints of ripe apples and a vivid acidity. Dry taste with a nice minerality. Probably difficult to get and perfect in blindtasting to screw up your participants.  Domaine Saint- Nicolas "le Haut des Clos"  from Fiefs Vendeens, Loire Ca 20€ or 240 NOK

Vouvray Le Mont 2010

Domaine Huet is one of the best producers of both dry and sweet Vouvray. The "moelleux" versions can last for 20-40 years while dry ones should preferably be drunk young or up to 10 years old. The grape is Chenin Blanc giving a wine of medium body with a decent floral smell of apples and pears. Smooth and rich on the palate balanced with a good acidity and lovely elegant taste. Vouvray 2010 "Le Mont" sec Loire white at it's best

Pouilly Fume Domaine des Fines Caillottes 2010

Lovely Sauvignon Blanc from Pouilly Fume by Domaine des Fines Cailottes. Green yellow colour and wonderful crispy gooseberry smell. Grea acidity despite the warm vintage with a zingy mineral dry aftertaste. Perfect with seafood and scallops. Pouilly Fume 2010 " Domaine des Fines Cailottes", NOK 170 or 10€.
