Life is too short to drink bad wine

Richebourg is a small appelation with Grand cru status in Burgundy in the commune of Vosne Romanee. Only 7,4 hectares with a total of 26.000 bottles produced by different producers. Prices vary from 300$ per bottle to 24.000$ bottle. I bought this bottle together with some friends from a local wine shop in the east of Norway. The same shop also rented us 4 Burgundy glasses !!! What a service! Let it be said at once: this is a stunning wine! Just super delicious and enormously complex. The 2001 vintage is drinking perfect now. Medium red colour with rusty red rim.  The aromas are just wonderful with many variations like: red meat, cellar, wet wooolen socks, chocolate, dark cherries and burnt wood. The taste is just as great and I have never tried such a powerful Pinot Noir. Silky and elegant tannins with a super sharp balance and very long and decadent  aftertaste. Great great stuff! I had this delicious Burgundy at the resto "Ma Cuisine" in Beaune last week. The producer Arnoux-Lachaux creates modern colourfull wines with concentrated fruit. This village wine from Vosne Romanee is no exception.  It's a big and fruity wine with a lovely balance. You drink it and you think it's light but it's not. I found this wine in a winebar called 28-50 in London. 2002 is not a great year but Robert Arnoux makes beautiful Vosne Romanee. And good it was. Beautiful delicate flavours of red fruit and some chocolate. Great balanced and velvety taste. Absolutely lovely stuff and perfect for meditation. Vosne Romanee 2002  Robert Arnoux Ca 80£

No ordinary wines from Vosne Romanee someone once said. That's the case for this one as well. Lovely smell of delicate red fruit and smooth, long and velvety taste. This is brilliant stuff, but not cheap, but oh so good. Vosne Romanee 2011 Daniel Rion Ca 500 NOK or 40€

Les Suchots is a premier cru close to grand cru in quality. I was not sure about the 2002 vintage, but it turned out to be just brilliant. Super delicious ethereal perfume and a mouthful so delicate and subtle that it takes your breath away. It's not a big red , but more on the feminine side.... Confuron-Cotetidot is a producer I have never heard about before, but worth remembering. Medium red colour with a red brown rim. Ripe red berries, vanilla, some wood and raw forrest floor. Similar to wine 1 but perhaps more refined. The taste has medium acidity and medium tannins. Very fruity wine with soft tannins and a medium aftertaste. Perhaps lacking some acidity. Probably Pinot, but due to the colour could it be another FFB? Aux Reignots is a tiny premier cru plot close to La Romanee (Grand cru). 'Il n'y a point de vins commune a Vosne' according to Courtepee. This premier cru from Sylvain Cathiard is certainly no exception to the rule. This 2007 has an intensity and depth combined with a refinement that is just breathtaking! Beautiful perfume of dark berries, chocolate and vanilla and a delightful big seductive taste makes this wine one to look out for if you want a wine for meditation purposes. Just great and stunning! 20 odd degrees and summer in Norway in the month of May. Wonderful! Perfect walk along the sea in the morning, then some Chablis and prawns for lunch, footie on TV with the favourites in red winning comfortably. Rounded off with a beautiful Vosne Romanee 2004 by Robert Arnoux. Surprising brick brown red colour made me wonder but it opened up beuatifully on the nose and was just perfect. Bought two bottles of red Burgundy by Pierre Andre at the tax free the other day. Thought I check the quality of this unknown producer being sold at reasonable tax free prices: Gevrey Chambertin 'Champlain' 2007 at 210 NOK or around 26€ Vosne Romanee 2006 at  270 NOK or around 33€ Although someone said that there are no ordinary wines from Vosne Romanee, I am afraid yes there is (no rules without exception) and Pierre Andre is one of those producers. Totally off normal Vosne Romanee style and quality, but boring red wine smelling of oak and vanilla, nothing to do with a great delicate Burgundy of great length and finesse. Just to add to the awful experience, or perhaps being saved from yet another negative wine experience, the Gevrey Chambertin wine was corked!! On top of that it cant be exchanged as no liquids are allowed through security.... Wonderful , just wonderful Its a perfect day! This tiny village in Burgundy is the home to some of the world's truly great red wines. Vosne Romanee has only 460 habitants, but six grand cru appelations. These six grand cru are probably some of the most famous and expensive wines in the world. So we tried out a village wine from Vosne Romanee by Robert Arnoux. The 2004 vintage is not as good as the 2005, but more reasonable. The wine had a beautiful medium red colour with discrete smell of dark fruit and some smoke. The taste was wonderfully silky solid long and velvety, a real experience. The tannins were soft, but firm and well integrated with the acidity. It could keep easily for 5 more years. Someone said there are no ordinary wines from Vosne Romanee, based on this experience I guess he was right. Vosne Romanee 2004 Robert Arnoux, ca 40€ or 350 NOK,  P+ (just wonderful)
