Chablis 2014 Laurence Tribut

Laurence Tribut makes a special basic Chablis that is more expensive than other village wines. His style is also different as the wine is matured by careful use of oak after having gone through malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. He uses only the best % liquid from the pressing of the grapes. Pale straw colour with hint of green. Lovely bouquet of sitrus, apple, yeast and sea. Well balanced creamy taste with great structure and acidity. This must be one of the best basic Chablis that exist! Chablis 2014 Laurence Tribut Ca 290 NOK or 20€

Sancerre "Les Chailloux" 2012 by Claude Riffault

This is a bone dry and very crispy Sancerre. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are grown in a small area where the soil is predominantly flint which gives wines with a very expressive minerality. Pale straw colour and a delicate boquet of gooseberries and citrus fruit. The taste is very clean and fresh, extremely zingy and zesty with a lovely mineral finish (wet stone). Perfect with seafood. Ca 220 NOK or 15€

Condrieu

This is super elegant Condrieu by Ogier. The Viognier grape (100%) can be a bit too much some times when mixed heavily with oak, but this one is just perfect. The nose is a bit white Burgundy like but with tones of more tropical fruit than lime or sitrus. Discrete and delicious. The taste is like a fullbodied white, packed with fruit and flavours like white peach and more tropical flavours. Lovely balance and great acidity. This is perfect with asian food or seafood. Condrieu 2010 Ogier Ca 35€

Doyard Champagne Blanc de blancs 2004 Collection de l'Art

This is an unknown Champagne house from Vertus that I had the pleasure of trying last week. It's a special blanc de blancs from the 2004 vintage. The colour was pale straw. The nose had lots of lime, minerals and ripe green apples. Really a nice, attractive and clean bouquet. The palate was dominated by clean, crispy flavours and high portion of minerality. Complex wine  and big wine with attractive fruit and balance. Doyard Champagne Blanc de blancs 2004 Collection de l'Art The Winebar 90€ (normal price 110)

Chablis Sainte Clair Vieilles Vignes

This is a biodynamic Chablis by Brocard. The producer has today around 100ha with organic vines and has produced organic wines for quite some time now. Pale straw colored wine with a nose of some tropical and citrus fruit. Compared to the ordinary Sainte Clair this one based upon old vines are rounder, bigger and softer. Well balanced acidity and fruit as well as a mineral taste. A very decent Chablis that has not seen oak. If you can't held of this try the ordinary Sainte Claire which might be more widely available. Chablis Sainte Clair 2012 Vieilles Vignes Jean Marc Brocard Ca 18€ or 217 NOK

Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc

Delightful Sauvignon Blanc of the zesty kind filled with exotic passion fruit. Bone dry white wine with lots of zingy fruit of the tropical kind. Citrus  and tropical fruit on the nose. Refreshing acidity and a great balanced wine with delightful crispy finish. Aperitif or with seafood. Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc 2012 Marlborough 190 NOK or 15$

Henriot 2000

This Champagne house makes affordable and stunning vintage Champagne. The 1996 from this house (tried in a wine bar in Berlin in 2013) is probably one of the best Champagne I have ever tried. The 2000 version is not far off and would probably have been even better if I had the patience to wait a couple of more years... which of course I did not have…. In memory of the old man who passed away last year, I enjoyed the 2000 with my mum and we had it with fried Arctic cod which is in season right now. A glorious combination and the Champagne was right out great with a rich harmonious bouquet of wet breadcrumbs, lime and minerals. A lively fresh taste with a superb length and balance. A shame we only had the one bottle. Henriot 2000 Champagne Ca 500NOK or 40€

Chablis 1er cru Montmains 2011

I am totally out of practice when it comes to tasting Chablis. Partly because I prefer white Burgundy and that Chablis can sometimes be a bit wimpy? Anyway, bought this one at the local supermarket. Premier cru for around 20€ is not too bad and Montmains is quite a good one. Pale yellow green colour. Lovely smell of sea, minerals and lime. Surprisingly attractive! Well balanced fruity and mineral like taste. I must admit I really enjoy this wine, it is in fact very nice indeed! Chablis 1er cru Montmains 2011 Closerie des Alisiers Have a bit of faith in me!

Condrieu 2011 by Verrier

Condrieu wines cost anything between 24-50€ depending on the producer and plot. This one, bought at Carrefour, is in the lower price range but gives value for money. The colour is medium lemon green with a pronounced nose of tropical fruit and lots of elderflowers. Big body for a white wine, almost nectar like. But that's Condrieu for you. Bring out your oldest Comte cheese and you will have a ball! Condrieu 2011 Domaine Verrier Ca 24€

Meursault 2007 by Domaine Michelot

Delightful Meursault at the Oro wine bar in Oslo. Perfect discrete buttery nose with minerals and lime. Bone dry, but a beautiful balanced wine with a long aftertaste. Great stuff and perfect with the fried white fish. Meursault "Les Narvaux" 2007 Domaine Michelot, High price Oh so drinkable....

Dr. Burklin Wolf, Ungeheuer, Forst 2011

This guys calls themselves the Montrachet of Pfalz in Germany. Pfalz is the driest and second largest region in Germany and is like a continuation of Alsace. The best wines are from Mittelhardt area around Wachenheim, Forst, Deidesheim and Ruppentsberg. This one from Forst has a classical Riesling nose, great balanced acidity and some minerality as well. A reasonable but very good every day Riesling! Dr. Burklin-Wolf, Ungeheuer 2011 Forst in Pfalz, Low price Ca 10-15€ Good Rieslings outside Rheingau do exist

Domaine Wachau Riesling Smaragd 2011

This is a great Riesling from a tiny plot called Achleiten in Wachau in Austria. A full bodied dry (close to off dry) white of the quality Smaragd. Remarkable well balanced and fruity wine with a nice acidity and long mineral finish. The nose has citrus fruit as well as stone fruit like peach. An elegant dry white that can be kept for quite a few years. Domane Wachau Riesling Smaragd 2011 Achleiten, Wachau Top Riesling from Austria, Ca 220 NOK or 15€

Leitz Riesling Spatlaese

This is a very fruity and easy drinking dry white of high quality but not too expensive. It's made from late harvested Riesling grapes but all the sugar has been transformed to alcohol to give a dry style of wine. Some redisual sweetness though and packed with fruit makes this wine very easy to drink on it's own or with white fish or sushi. Leitz Rudesheimer Bischofsberg Spaetlese Trocken 2011, Rheingau, Germany A very drinkable dry white. Ca 170 NOK

Riesling 2011 Georg Breuer

Basic Riesling by Georg Breuer in Rheingau. Ca 140 NOK or more like 6-7€ in Europe. Light pale straw colour, smell of crispy apples and fruity dry taste. Perfect with sushi or even on it's own. Riesling 2011, Rheingau by Breuer Straight forward and reasonable

Resholz Riesling "Ganshorn im Sonnenschein 2007

This Riesling from Pfalz in Germany is just wonderful. Packed with fruit and minerals and perfect with salmon or sushi. The producer is Økonomierat Resholz and wine is from the Ganshorn im Sonnenschein. It's not cheap but worth every penny of the 35€ it will set you back. Thanks to restuarant 4 Roser in harstad for introducing me to this wine. Ganshorn im Sonnenschein 2007, Pfalz Delicious and mineral rich.

Dr. Burklin Wolf Riesling 2009, Wachenheimer

Got this wine at "De 3 Roser" in Harstad, Norway A new Riesling producer to me but perfect match with scallops. Ginger and petroleum on the nose. Very fruity and dry taste, but lovely acidity and touch of minerals. Great stuff. Dr Burklin Wolf Riesling 2009, Wachenheimer Dry Riesling suitable for a number of dishes including sushi.

Riesling Mittelheim St.Nikolas 2008, Rheingau

This Riesling comes from Rheingau in Germany, the heart of  production of lush juicy ripe white wines. Peter Jakob Kuhn makes consistently good wines and this one which is a "Charta" wine (like a First Growth) is no exception. Charta wines are recognised by the three Romanesque double arches on the front label. Beautiful pale lemon colour and attractive nose of peach fruit, apples and minerals. The taste is silky fruit all along, with sort of a "creamy" smooth touch. Impossible to dislike even you are not used to dry white wines. Riesling Mittelheim St.Nikolas 2008, Rheingau by Peter Jakob Kuhn. NOK 290 (medium price). A wine absolutely worth while trying. Weingut Peter Jakob Kühn - St. Nikolaus
If you come across a wine made by Zind Humbrecht in Alsace just buy it. All the wines from this domain are of great quality so you will never be disappointed but be prepared to pay. Low yields, late picking and biodynamic create wines worth dying for. So also this Riesling Turckheim from 2007. Pale yellow/green colour and a lovely nose with apples, yellow plum, flowers and minerals. Dry wine with lots of fruit and a lovely mineral touch. Rich with great acidity. Lovely. Riesling Turckheim 2007, medium price 260, an elegant Riesling by Zind Humbrecht. Domaine Zind-Humbrecht
Fancied a bit of Riesling the other day and came across a dry version from Germany by Peter Jakob Kuhn in Rheingau. This guy has changed style over the last 20 years and started biodynamic viticulture. Lovely pale green/yellow colour with attractive nose of ripe apples and petroleum. The taste is extremely fruity with good well balanced acidity and hint of minerals. It is bone dry but feels nearly sweet due to the enormous amount of fruit. Beautiful and very yummy wine indeed. Riesling Trocken by Peter Jakob Kuhn, wonderful Riesling at medium price, 20 to 30€. Weingut Peter Jakob Kühn - Start
