Ch Soudars 2005

A bit north in  Medoc in Bordeaux you will find Ch. Soudars.
A mix of Merlot and Cabernet in a very good but warm vintage. Fermentation in steel tanks and maturation 12 months french oak barriques.

Deep ruby colour.

Delicate smell dark fruit, leather, spice and tobacco.

Fresh warm fruit on the palate with a distinct tannin structure that requires some food to match.

Try with heavy meaty dishes or BBQ.

A very good example of a decent Medoc within budget.

Chambolle Musigny 2006 by Patrice Rion

I am still in Burgundy mood, which is a very expensive mood to be in wherever you live but especially when stuck in Norway. Luckily the selection is quite good and Friday my eyes landed on a Chambolle Musigny 2006 by Patrice Rion. Patrice Rion is a small bio-dynamically family run winery in Nuits St George and was created in 1990. According to what I was told previous weekend in Paris, Volnay and the Chambolle are the two most elegant and seductive wines from Burgundy. The wine is not unlike a Beaune Premier cru with  a medium dark red colour but perhaps slightly less "fat" with a lovely delicate smell of raspberries and cherries. The taste was soft, elegant, silky , smooth, velvety with lovely fruit, balance and creamy tannins. Very yummy indeed and so is the price at around 40€, but when you need Burgundy its worth every penny! Chambolle Musigny 2006, Patrice Rion P+ and drink between 4 to 6 years old. Copain Pinot Noir Kiser "En Bas" Anderson Valley

This is a stunning and captivating Pinot Noir from the Anderson valley just ten miles from the ocean. Cool climate and a stony soil have created this wonderful, complex and sumptuous fruity wine. Medium red color and a great complex smell of crushed redcurrant, red fruit and touch of minerals. A truly lovely and delicate incredible balanced taste that amazes you each time you take a sip. Copain single vineyards are probably one of the best Pinot's I have ever tasted from California…. Copain Pinot Noir 2009 Anderson Valley Kiser "en Bas"  70usd

Condrieu 2014 by Cuilleron

In the steep hills north in  the Rhone valley there is a small appelation which is called Condrieu. Here the rare grape of Viognier is grown. A grape not well known to many people but which gives a fantastic wine when grown here. It is a full bodied white with a very pronounced and overwhelming smell of flower, peach, apricot, tropical fruit etc. The taste is dominated by ripe fruit, medium acidity and a long finish. Very good to outstanding quality. This is not a white for the fainthearted as the style is rather opulent. But with 2 year old Comte it is the perfect match. Cuilleron (manager) has many different styles. The wine is pricy and rare to get hold of. Condrieu 2014 "La Petite Cote" Yves Cuilleron ca 30€ or 400 nok
