Blindtasting Jan 15

Wine # 1
Pale red colour with Burgundy rim. Say no more. This is Pinot Noir!

On the nose packed with sweet red fruit like raspberries , hint of chocolate and some dried fruit.

Very soft smooth and fruity taste with absolutely no resistance. Velvety tannins and low acidity. Perhaps a bit jammy.

Very drinkable wine and the panel concluded it has to be new world Pinot Noir! (and we were right....)

Anthill Farms Pinot Noir 2012
Sonoma Coast
Score 18,0 (Price 380 NOK or 50$)

Wine # 2

Very similar pale red colour as wine no 1. On the nose more darker fruit with hints of pepper. More complex smell as well. Definitely Pinot Noir again.

The taste is better with more structure and acidity although it is still a bit "jammy" with some spices.

A complex wine and the panel is dithering between new world and Burgundy. We were told Burgundy and then I said it had to be a warm year, not Volnay and not Montille as the producer.

and it was in fact all those things...!!

Volnay 1er cru Taillepieds 2008
Domaine Montille
Score 18,20 (Price ca 600 NOk or 50€)

Wine #3

So then a totally different cup of tea. Deep dark red colour with purple rim.

Big solid smell of dark berries, brambles, discrete spices, some oak and vanilla and farm.

Soft and elegant taste with lots of fruit, smooth tannins, structured taste that is quite long. Nice acidity as well. A really nice and cosy "muscular" wine.

Panel is lost and identified the 10% Syrah....the rest was Garnacha...

Les Crestes 2012
Priorat
Score 18,40 (Price 280 NOK or 20€)
Very good value for money!!

Wine # 4

Again a wine that is deep dark red.

Packed with dark fruit as well, some coffee and an overall refines smell.

The palate is kind with more acidity and tannins than the previous one. But still very elegant and silky.

Overall missing a bit of identity and the panel has not got a clue of what it is could be. Cote Rotie or Hermitage was the best bets.
Spanish 100% Syrah from La mancha...omg too tricky

Dehesa del Carrizal 2011
Vino de Pago, La Mancha
Score 17,50 (Price ca 200NOK or 18€)

Wine # 5

Not sure that this was advisable, but anyway we dropped the cognac....

Again deep dark red colour with purple rim.

Smell of red cherries in a tin, some minerality and vanilla and farm smell.

Again a soft and kind taste with silky fruit. Perhaps a bit too much acidity but a lighter more fruity style than the two previous.

Panel is lost but with some guidance 100% Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero was suggested...!!

Fuero Real Crianza 2011
Ribera del Duero
                                      Score 17,0 (Price 175 NOk or 15€)

Leoville Lascases 1988

Last week was a special week for me as I received my last pay check from my previous employer. An event that required some sort of celebration with some good friends. Of the many bottles opened during that evening was a Leoville Lascases 1988. This Bordeaux wine from St. Julien is second Grand cru classee but it has the quality of a first growth. This chateau was also the wine that made me change from beer to wine as I had the pleasure of tasting a Leoville Lascases 1945 back in 88.  The 1945  just knocked me off my guard and I remember thinking what a fantastic wine it was and what an experience to drink this wine from the year when world war 2 ended. I was in shock and I then just decided to enter into the world of wine. I have always had a soft spot for this chateau ever since. And to my pleasure  it has been performing well at much more reasonable prices than the much more expensive first growths in the 1855 classification. Nowadays a bottle of this wine costs around ...

Pecharmant wine district

Pécharmant is a wine appellation in the hills to the North-East of the market town of Bergerac , France. Pécharmant is the best known of the wines from the Dordogne subregion and the wines have been classified as AOC since 1936. The identification "Pécharmant" dates from 1946 and new AOC since March 13, 1992. First produced in the eleventh century, Pécharmant is the oldest collective of vineyards in the region of Bergerac. Condrieu 2014 by Cuilleron

In the steep hills north in  the Rhone valley there is a small appelation which is called Condrieu. Here the rare grape of Viognier is grown. A grape not well known to many people but which gives a fantastic wine when grown here. It is a full bodied white with a very pronounced and overwhelming smell of flower, peach, apricot, tropical fruit etc. The taste is dominated by ripe fruit, medium acidity and a long finish. Very good to outstanding quality. This is not a white for the fainthearted as the style is rather opulent. But with 2 year old Comte it is the perfect match. Cuilleron (manager) has many different styles. The wine is pricy and rare to get hold of. Condrieu 2014 "La Petite Cote" Yves Cuilleron ca 30€ or 400 nok
